There will be an estimated 186.017 billion high-brightness LED chips shipped globally in 2015, increasing on year by 32.6%, and the corresponding production value will grow much less by 7.5% to US$13.699 billion due to continued drops in the average selling price, according to Digitimes Research.
In terms of application of such LED chips, LED lighting will account for 49.3% of the shipments, followed by backlighting of mobile terminal devices with 16.5%, backlighting of LCD TVs with 7.9%, LED fine-pitch display panels (mostly used indoors) with 7.2%, automotive lighting with 5.8%, backlighting of tablets with 4.3%, backlighting of notebooks with 3.4% and backlighting of LCD monitors with 1.7%, Digitimes Research indicated.
LED light tubes will account for 37.4% of such LED chips used in LED lighting, LED light bulbs for 32.5%, LED spotlight and downlight lamps for 25.8% and LED street lamps for 4.2%.
Shipments of such LED chips used in LED lighting will increase on year by 65.5%, while those used in LED fine-pitch display panels and automotive lighting will rise by 24.0% and 13.0% respectively. Among backlighting applications, shipments of such LED chips used in LCD TVs will increase on year by 23.3% due to growing shipments of edge-type LED-backlit, Ultra HD, curved-surface and quantum dot models, while those used in tablets, notebooks and LCD monitors will decrease by 9.8%, 9.6% and 0.6% respectively.
