Jiffy Packaging Divests Systems Division to Ripac

Jiffy Packaging Europe has sold its air cushion technology and foam-in-place systems division, to German flexible packaging firm Ripac.

Ripac has been supplying film to Jiffy's Systems division since 2008.

Cheshire-based Jiffy makes polyolefin foam and bubble film products. It was acquired by Airpack from Pregis last year.

Jiffy CEO Mark Kllmann said: "It is our aim to become one of the leading European manufacturers of polyolefin foam and bubble film and to do this we need to remain focused. This divestment forms part of our strategy to achieve that objective."

With the acquisition, all the employees of Systems will be moved to the payrolls of Ripac and operate from their designated locations.

In July, Jiffy announced its first phase of investment post the acquisition. The firm is investing in an extrusion technology to manufacture polyethylene foam.

"We have recently made a number of significant investments in additional foam capacity in Romania, Germany, Belgium and the UK.

"These investments signal our intention to grow and innovate with quality products for new markets," Kllmann added.

Founded in 2008, Grevenbroich-based Ripac manufactures flexible film, foam and paper packaging, with sites across Europe.

The firm expects the acquisition to boost its own protective packaging line-up of air cushion and foam-in-place products.
