US-based company Intelligent Packaging Solutions (IPS) has launched new 'Desto' cup, a packaging format for frozen ready meals.
Last year, the Desto cup was unveiled into chilled ready meals market, but now it has been launched for the frozen ready meals market.
Desto is a combination of lightweight, clear plastic inlet made from polypropylene, which makes it ideal for freezing, microwave or hot fill. It is 66% lighter compared with injection mould pack formats.
The paperboard sleeve, which provides insulation, is made from renewable resources. Both the pot and sleeve can be easily separated for recycling later.
IPS sales and marketing manager Gerard Connolly said the Desto cup meets the demands from retailers and consumers alike for lightweight, recyclable and environmentally-friendly packaging in a format that is convenient and easy to use, whilst the paperboard sleeve provides both strength and decoration with design potential for strong shelf appeal within the freezer section.
"Consumers are once again looking for a solution to meet the demands of hectic lifestyles and we are confident that the pack will revolutionise the way they think about frozen ready meals," Connolly said.
