Suzuki Motor's Chinese joint venture Changan Suzuki has started construction of its second assembly plant in Chongqing in China.
A total of CNY2.3bn ($364.52m) will be invested in the new plant, which is scheduled to be completed next year is expected to produce about 150,000 vehicles per year, of two Suzuki models.
The company's current plant in Banan District, Chongqing has an annual production capacity of 250,000 units, which is expected to rise to 500,000 units by 2015.
The company said that the production capacity of the engines in the current plant will also be strengthened to meet the production of the second plant, which is expected to start in December next year.
Suzuki and Changan Automobile have jointly established Changan Suzuki in 1993 and started production of the Alto in 1995, followed by Cultus, Swift and SX4 in the next 19 years.
