Japan-based Toppan Printing has announced plans to open its new JPY27bn ($293m) Gunma plant, which is under construction and is positioning it as a ‘mother factory’ for the production of flexible packaging materials for overseas markets.
The company will install new equipment in the 154,000m2 plant which will supply packaging materials for food and toiletries, as well as for other fields such as healthcare products. A clean production environment and advanced quality control system will also be housed at the plant.
According to the company, the plant will provide flexible packaging materials that use its original high barrier films, GL Film and PRIME BARRIER, to sectors such as food, healthcare and industrial materials.
The company will also bolster the main base materials production of composite containers that mix materials such as flexible packaging, paperboard cartons and plastics.
The plant, which will develop new technologies and products, will proactively supply products to cultivate both domestic and overseas markets.
Construction of the plant, which commenced in November 2012, is scheduled to be completed in March 2014.
At the plant, Toppan will install a volatile organic compound (VOC) recovery and reuse system with an original design. The plant will also have efficient energy equipment such as cogeneration systems, which use exhaust heat to produce power and improve overall energy efficiency.
