Print and packaging solutions provider Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) has invested in a Heidelberg’s 18-unit Speedmaster XL 106 press for premium packaging.
The press is planned to be installed at MPS East Kilbride facility in the UK during March and will be fully commissioned by mid 2017.
MPS expects the new press will allow it to handle even more processes inline and with total quality control.
The firm installed a 17-unit press four years ago at the facility while the new press is expected to offer even greater capability, the company noted.
Featuring 11 printing units, three coating units, four drying units and an in-line cold foiling system, the press will be capable of operating at 18,000sph to meet increased demand for premium branded packaging.
Additional features of the press include Image Control 3, a color control system designed to offer a special opaque white control, enhancing quality on the metalized boards.
EVP European Branded Consumer Tim Whitfield said: “Quality reports are available automatically so customers can be certain that their specified colors are reproduced to the tightest tolerances.
“Another feature of the press is Inspection Control 2 which provides reassurance that every sheet meets the highest resolution possible.”
MPS said that the press’ perfector section allows in-line reverse side printing to incorporate design or promotions.
Heidelberg UK sales director Jim Todd said: “We are proud to work with a group that operates in 14 countries over three continents and which strives for continuous innovation.”
A cold foiling unit, Foil Star, is also equipped to the Heidelberg XL to provide resource efficient enhancements.
