Finland-based Huhtamäki has received statement of objections from the European Commission (EC) regarding alleged anticompetitive behavior in the markets of plastic trays, which are used for retail packaging of food materials, such as meat and poultry, in South-West Europe, North-West Europe and France.
The company allegedly infringed EU competition regulations during its operations in the period of 2000 - 2008, of which most of them referred to were part of Huhtamäki's rigid plastic consumer goods business in Europe that has been closed down/divested in years 2006 and 2010, said the consumer and specialty packaging company.
The company stated that its other divisions, including Flexible Packaging, Films, North America and Molded Fiber, are not affected.
The company said that it would examine the documents received from the EC and will respond to the statement of objections as requested.
