A study suggests that landlines and tablets could be obsolete in the next five years.

Virgin Media Business conducted a survey with 500 CIOs and found that 65% believe the landline will disappear from everyday use in the next five years.
Smartphones are suggested to be the cause of abandoning landlines and other forms of communication technology.
The study predicts that 70% of the UK will own a smartphone based on mobile connectivity. This means devices like tablets and PC's may also be abandoned by the majority of users.
Nearly 25% of CIOs reported they believe tablet usage will fade out; a suprising outcome given the current uptake of tablets across enterprises.
The majority of CIOs think smartphones have a promising future with only 13% of CIOs saying the device will be abandoned. The outlook for PC's was dire with over 60% of CIOs stating the technology will become redundant in the near future.
"The pace of change with technology is having a transformative effect on the way we work," said Tony Grace, COO of Virgin Media Business. A decade ago it would have been unthinkable to suggest an office without telephones. Now it's hard to imagine being separated from our smartphones."
The demand for constant data on the go has caused Virgin Media Business to see a surge in the network with 765 billion bits of data transferred each second.
"Mobile connections to the internet are getting better by the day. Commuters in London can now access WiFi under the streets of the city at stations across the Underground network. Almost everywhere we go we're able to check-in at the office, social networking sites, or simply contact friends and family everywhere we go. Because of this, businesses have recognised the importance of the mini computers that smartphones have essentially become.
