Harvey Nichols' OXO Tower in South Bank, London, has introduced new Take Home Boxes, which will reduce food waste and improve customer experience.
The boxes have been printed and manufactured in the UK by Biopac that specializes in eco-friendly packaging.
Wood pulp that is produced from sustainable forests in Europe has been used to make these boxes. They have also been coated with a compostable material to make them leak proof.
After the boxes have been used, they can be composted completely, making them environment friendly.
Harvey Nichols marketing and communications manager Kerri McGuinness said: "Recently awarded an SRA Three Star Rating, we are always trying to find innovative ways to further improve our sustainability practices.
"We put the project out to tender with three suppliers and found Biopac to be the most flexible with our bespoke design needs and responsive to our requests. It was a long term project, and the end result is certainly worth it."
According to a report by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), an average restaurant throws out 21 tonnes of food a year. The report also states that customers don't ask to take food home out of embarrassment.
The restaurant hopes that with the boxes, the hotel will encourage customers to take their leftovers home, helping to reduce this figure.
