Two Indian Beverage Can Plants Get Rexam Investment

Rexam, a global beverage can manufacturer, has secured land in Sri City, located near the southern Indian city of Chennai to develop a new beverage can plant.

Scheduled to be launched by the second half of 2016, the plant in Sri City is expected to add a total production capacity of close to 800million cans. With an initial investment of £50m, the plant is expected to generate approximately 150 new jobs for the local community.

The company has also secured land in Mahindra World City in the north Indian city of Jaipur for another beverage can plant. Plans for the land in Jaipur were not disclosed.

Rexam AMEA sector director Craig Jones said: "These investments will support and enable us to take advantage of the continued exciting growth of the beverage can in India.

"Having plants in different locations across the country will ensure we have a better footprint and position to meet the needs of our customers in the region over the long term."

Rexam employs nearly 8,000 people and operates 55 plants in 20 countries in the continents of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, North America, and South America.

It offers beverage cans packaging solutions comprising aluminum and steel cans for carbonated soft drinks, beer, and energy drinks.
