General Motors has appointed John K. Blanchard as lead executive for all GM’s initiatives and projects in Detroit.
Blanchard who was serving as the director of Local Government Relations for the U.S. since 2011 will represent GM on numerous commissions and boards within Detroit, including Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Automation Alley and Detroit Economic Growth Corporation.
Blanchard will also be recommended to serve as the GM representative on the Downtown Detroit Partnership.
Global Public Policy senior vice president Bob Ferguson said: "As a life-long resident of Michigan, John understands Detroit well."
"Having John lead our efforts will ensure the company has an even greater impact in helping rebuild Detroit."
Blanchard has previously led the GM Worldwide Real Estate Group, and was responsible for overseeing the redevelopment of the company's global headquarters at the Renaissance Center.
