Schaumaplast Offers Packaging Made From Biomass-Balanced Styropor

Packaging firm Schaumaplast has launched a product made from biomass-balanced Styropor from BASF.

The firm produced the new Styropor packaging for ice cream from IceGuerilla.de, a start-up engaged in sending ice creams in Germany.

Schaumaplast managing director Bernhard Hauck said: “We are proud to be the first packaging manufacturer to launch a product made from biomass-balanced Styropor from BASF on the market.

“It is an innovation that scores points for its environmental impact without losing the foam’s tried-and-tested technical properties.”

The new solution, which features thermal insulating properties, meets IceGuerilla.de’s high sustainability requirements.

IceGuerilla.de co-founder and managing director Ralf Schulze said: “Our quality ice cream is now delivered in high-quality packaging that is not only very good at keeping the product cool, but also helps the environment and climate by using renewable raw materials.”

The Styropor MB is produced using BASF’s biomass balance approach, which is developed by the German chemical group and certified by TÜV SÜD.

BASF global business management Styrenic foams vice-president Dr Klaus Ries said: “Styropor packaging offers the advantage that it is 98% air and fully recyclable – consumers can simply dispose of it in their yellow bag or recycling bin.”

Schaumaplast is engaged in manufacturing parts made of EPS (airpop, styropor), EPP, and other particle foams such as E-TPU in Germany, Poland, and the US.
