China shipped a total of 237 million handsets in the first half of 2015, rising 7.4% from a year earlier, with shipments of 4G models increasing 381.8% on year to 195 million units, according to data from China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
Shipments of 4G models accounted for 82.2% of total handset shipments in the six-month period, buoyed by strong marketing efforts by the top-three telecom operators, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.
In June along, handset shipments reached 38.12 million units, down 10.2% from the same period of a year earlier. Of total shipments, smartphones totaled 33.77 million units, decreasing 8.7% on year.
Meanwhile, Android-based smartphones totaled 30.92 million units in June.
