UK, Belfast City Hall has become the first building in Europe to install a new intelligent lighting system, with its LED floodlighting becoming the biggest single building project of its kind in Europe.
The council says it will help reduce both the energy bill and CO2 emissions, saving around £14,000 on the annual electricity bill.
The hall uses 433 light fittings, individually controlled, meaning the city hall can be illuminated by up to 16m different colour options. The council plans to light up the building for different occasions, such as green for St Patricks Day, orange for July 12, red for St Valentine’s Day and rainbow for gay pride.
As a supplier of lighting products, including LED bulbs, Lights 4 Living is interested by the installation and its energy saving benefits.
A spokesperson from Lights 4 Living said: “It’s encouraging to see Belfast City Hall becoming one of the leaders in opting for LED flood lighting. As well as offering a range of colours, they are easy to programme and much cheaper to run. Many people are converting to LED lights for their home lighting because they have energy saving benefits. As well as lasting much longer, they also use less electricity - while still producing the same amount of light.”
