Continual drops in price have been driving demand for LED lighting products, with performance/cost ratio of 1W/US$ quoted by manufacturers currently expected to fall to 1W/US$ quoted by retailers at the end of 2012, according to chairman and CEO Jason Wu for Taiwan-based Edison Opto, which is specialized in packaging LED chips for lighting applications.
China-based makers and vendors have been increasing pressure on Taiwan-based competitors, especially in LED light bulbs, Wu indicated. Comparatively, Taiwan-based makers and vendors have more business opportunities in LED lighting for commercial use, Wu said.
Edison has landed orders from Brazil and will ship one million LED light bulbs in four months, Wu said. With most of the orders being urgent ones with delievery scheduled within one month of receiving of orders, Edison's utilization of production capacity stands at about 70% currently, Wu indicated.
