Heineken global duty free has launched a new, 100% recyclable draught technology called BrewLock that delivers the draught beer at brewery quality to consumers on cruise lines and ferries.
The new technology will do away with the need for additional gas and regulatory systems in keg systems to pull the brews to the tap. Instead, BrewLock will use a multi layered keg that will use normal atmospheric pressure to push the beer out to ensure that the beer stays protected from outside influences and untouched, thereby retaining its brewery quality.
The beer in the inner lining is completely sealed to provide consumers a fresh and perfectly carbonated product.
The technology also comes with a quick keg change-over that reduces the time taken to change the keg as compared to the traditional kegs.
Heineken global duty free and travel retail manager Sean McNaughten said: "We've been working intensively to perfect a draught beer solution for our 'sailing' customers in our shared objective to bring the perfect serve to consumers.
"Our investment in this pioneering technology is a real game changer for the industry and revolutionizes the way beer is brought to and enjoyed in the cruise and ferry sectors."
The technology which was in use by Royal Caribbean International since June will be made available for other cruise and ferry operators from September.
Heineken Global Duty Free global manager cruiselines Koos Vrijlandt said: "This is a one-way keg solution that brings environmental advancements: the PET keg and outer cardboard are 100% recyclable and also there is no return journey for the empty keg back to the brewery. This brings about efficiencies in the supply chain."
Apart from being easy to handle and cost-effective, BrewLock kegs are also 25% lighter and have a smaller footprint in the cooler and storage.
