Independent Retailer Month Has Joined Forces to Support Indies Across The UK

The Independents' Day campaign and Independent Retailer Month have joined forces to support indies across the UK.

Launching today, April 4th, the Independents' Day campaign will lead up to the nationwide event Independents' Day, held on July 4th.

The event encourages shoppers to spend with local and independent retailers.

The day will kick-start the third year of Independent Retailer Month, a month-long celebration of independent retail that will carry on throughout July.

Together, both campaigns are offering a range of free, downloadable materials and resources to indies involved in the campaign.

Both campaigns are being supported by a variety of trade associations including British Independent Retailers Association and Action for Market Towns.

Jane Rexworthy, head of the national Skills Academy for retail and spokesperson for Independent's Day, said: "Independent retailers make up 92 per cent of all retail business in the UK and their contribution to a location's identity and community is unrivalled.

"We recognise how important they are to local economies and to create a healthier high street, and we are delighted to give independent retailers a voice to reach out to the public."

Clare Rayner of Independent Retailer Month, said: "2013 is the third year for Independent retailer Month and we intend it to be the best yet.

"I'm delighted to work alongside the NSA for Retail, and it's great to have this national consumer-facing event as a kick start to this year's Independent retailer Month."
