The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has started illuminating its Burfiwala Junction flyover in Andheri with a colourful LED series.
The eco-friendly LED strip lighting consumes very low power and is economical. And some Mumbaikars have already started enjoying the illuminated site as they zoom past from under the flyover as certain portion of it has got the series installed.
The lighting is also water proof and gives effect of beautification of the structure built early this year by the metropolitan administration. The MMRDA has already illuminated about 200 meters of the flyover. It's a very welcome development which, in fact, offers a pleasant view in the midst of a concrete jungle.
"There is yet another reason for illuminating Burfiwala flyover. In Mumbai, any space which falls dark or kept away from public view is prone to encroachment. We, therefore, thought it is best to illuminate the underbelly of the flyover to keep the space under the flyover bright and under vigil of the people involved in security during night hours", said MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawathkar.
The same can be used indoor as also outdoor as the same is waterproof and has a long lifespan. The LED wall washers give a soft blue touch with high brightness to the flyover which will run for a total of 1,400 meters on both sides. The rupees 14.63 lakh project is expected to be completed by the first week of November.
