Pharmatek Is Set to Expand Its Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facilities

Contract development and manufacturing company Pharmatek is all set to expand its good manufacturing practice (GMP) facilities, owing to increasing growth and global demand for its services.

The expansion, which is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2013, will include a new automated packaging line that will produce batch sizes up to 10,000 bottles per day, three additional cGMP manufacturing suites and further drug product and cold storage.

According to the US-based company, the new facility includes client manufacturing viewing areas, and has been designed to handle cytotoxic compounds, control humidity between 20% and 60% RH.

Pharmatek director of manufacturing Kevin Rosenthal said the addition of automated packaging and larger suites matches with the company's recent equipment purchases and enables it to handle larger scale clinical trial material productions.

"The ability to serve our clients longer, as they advance their compounds down the development pipeline, reduces their overall costs and time-to-clinic," Rosenthal said.

The company, which expects an increase in its production capacity by 50% with the additional manufacturing space, plans a similar sized expansion for 2014 in a bid to accommodate expected long-term growth of its operations.
