Cree has had nearly 150 LED luminaries from its CR Series LED troffers and CR series LED downlights incorporated into the Ronald McDonald House of Durham, North Carolina (RMHD). The lighting was installed in a recent rennovation to support the RMHD mission of providing a comfortable, warm, home-like atmosphere for critically ill children and their families, while also saving energy and money.

The lighting fixtures chosen by the RMHD were the CR22 LED troffer, an architectural LED troffer that delivers up to 3200 lumens of 90+ CRI light while achieving 90 lm/W; the CR24 LED troffer, an architectural LED troffer that delivers up to 5000 lm of 90+ CRI light while achieving 90-110 lm/W; the CR-LE light engine, which delivers up to 5000 lm of 90+ CRI light with 90-110 lm/W; and the CR6 downlights, which deliver up to 800 lm of 90+ CRI light with up to 67 lm/W.

The Cree CR series is designed for the retrofit market, with products fitting into existing cans. This makes the Cree CR series a no-compromise alternative to fluorescent lighting.

The lighting for the expansion, which has taken the RMHD will take the house from 29 to 55 bedrooms and includes a large kitchen, community room, school room and library to serve children being treated at Duke Pediatric Hospital, provides energy and maintenance savings of nearly 65% over the previously planned fluorescent lighting solution.
