Germany Is The Country Where Most Spanish Apparel Firms Prioritize Germany for Expansion

Germany is the country where most Spanish apparel firms plan to expand this year in Europe. This was one of the conclusions of the 2013 edition of Fashion Business Barometer in Spain, a study sponsored by vente-privee.com and developed by Modaes.es, based on the data provided by about 300 companies.

The report ‘Fashion Business in Spain’ was presented at Isem Fashion Business School at University of Navarra.

In 2012, exports averaged to 45 percent of turnover of all companies and the forecast for exports are positive for 72 percent of the companies surveyed, according to Modaes.es.

About seven out of ten Spanish clothing companies are planning entry into new markets this year. Germany is the most repeated in the international growth plans of fashion companies, overtaking the UK as a priority market in Europe.

Mexico, United States, China and Russia were other most attractive markets for Spanish apparel brands in other continents.

In terms of employment, e-commerce is one of the main engines of growth in garment firms, and 53 percent of the companies surveyed said they expected to recruit more professionals in this department during the year.

Eight out of ten Spanish apparel companies have an online store in 2013 and 93 percent of them expect their sales to increase through the online medium during the year.

Nearly one in two clothing companies is already involved in m-commerce, the study revealed.

Analyzing the presence of Spanish apparel firms on social networks, the survey said 41 percent of companies have very active presence, while 50 percent are moderately active, and only 3 percent are not present in social networks.

An interesting conclusion from the study is that 97 percent of Spanish apparel firms believe that the war on discounts and promotions would continue even when economic conditions become better.
