China offered few details of its reasons for the investigation.
Zhang Mao, head of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), said at a meeting last week that the investigation covered 20 provinces and municipalities.
Tetra Pak has been repeatedly accused of abusing its dominant market role, triggering the on-site inspection and on-going probes, the administration said.
According to its website, Tetra Pak entered the China market in 1972. It has a research centre in Shanghai and packaging materials plants in several Chinese cities.
In a statement to Packaging News, a Tetra Pak spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Chinese State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) has asked the company to provide them with information related to our business in China.
“At this stage, however, we have no further information regarding their enquires, or any formal investigation.
“We will, of course, continue to cooperate with SAIC going forward.”
