Everlight's 2013 LED Lighting Revenues May Reach NT$2-3 Billion

Taiwan-based LED packaging house Everlight has own-brand LED lighting products and market observers believe the firm's 2013 LED lighting revenues may reach NT$2-3 billion (US$67-101 million). The firm plans to shift market focus to China in 2013 and expects revenues from China to surpass revenues from Taiwan within 2-3 years.

According to Robert Yeh, chairman of Everlight, the firm aims to develop distribution channels in China and hopes to form strategic alliances with strong China-based distributors in 2013. The firm recently established Everlight Lighting (Shanghai) to enter the LED lighting market in China.

Industry sources noted that Everlight's 2013 revenues from LED lighting are likely to show significant growth, and in particular, revenues from outdoor LED street lamps are likely to account for 50% of total sales. In 2013, Everlight's lighting revenues may surpass other traditional lighting firms to rank second place in Taiwan behind China Electric.

In 2012, China Electric saw revenues reach close to NT$7 billion and in particular, revenues from lighting accounted for 45%, while revenues from green energy applications accounted for 55%. China Electric reported 2012 lighting revenues of around NT$3.1 billion, but only around NT$1 billion from LED lighting sales. China Electric predicts revenues from LED lighting to grow 200-300% in 2013.

Taiwan's LED light bulb market began to boom in 2012. Currently, Taiwan and China have the lowest prices for LED light bulbs compared to other markets. Market observers predict the prices of retrofit 60W LED light bulbs are likely to fall to US$10/unit in Taiwan in second-half 2013. This will stimulate strong market growth, said market observers.
