Model Group, a manufacturer of packaging made of cardboard and corrugated board, is planning to build a material processing plant in Switzerland with an investment of CHF35m ($35m).
Planned to be built in Weinfelden, the plant will recycle drinks cartons and other papers which are not dissolvable in water.
The plant, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2017, can handle up to 75,000 tons of drinks cartons and water-insoluble papers annually.
The investment is part of Model’s plans to expand the existing technical potential to recover and recycle raw materials.
Upon completion of the recycling process, the recovered raw material will be used to produce containerboard of an even higher quality.
These containerboards can be used to manufacture customized packaging and displays.
The company said in a statement: "At the same time, consumers will benefit from the declining volume of incinerated waste. Furthermore, re-using existing materials reduces resource use in the long term, while also cutting CO2 emissions.”
In January 2016, Model Group has acquired P-WELL, which operates corrugated board plants in Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia and Switzerland.
Model Group is engaged in developing, producing and delivering packaging solutions using cardboard and corrugated board, ranging from simple transport packaging to chocolate and perfume boxes with sophisticated finishes.
