Pharmacy automation supplier TCGRx has launched new pouch packaging, the CompletePac, which is said to address adherence packaging at the point of discharge from hospitals and rehabilitation units in long-term care.
In a safe and effective way within skilled nursing facilities, the new packaging solution also offers a method for handling discontinued medication.
With the use of TCG's ATP Series, the CompletePac closes the packaging loop, while the ATP generates oral solid medication in unit dose packaging through an interface, and integrates them into a larger and clearly labeled overwrap pouch, later on.
The packaging can be organized for single or multiple day discharge amounts, as well as for specific pass times, according to the company.
Featuring multi-line printing and 2D and linear barcode printing, the new packaging is available in various package sizes and also in single use or re-sealable options.
TCGRX noted that the unopened unit dose packaged meds can also be returned to inventory saving the pharmacy money over time.
TCGRX president Duane Chudy said due the reimbursement changes and star rating systems through CMS, the discharge from hospitals and rehab units in LTC has become a major priority.
"CompletePac is a way to take the daunting challenge of medication management and turn it into a convenient, patient-friendly format that anyone can use," Chudy added.
