Volkswagen Is Planning to Recall 2,471 Beetle Cars in North America

German automaker Volkswagen is planning to recall 2,471 Beetle cars in North America over airbags problem issue.

The recall includes 2012 and 2013 model year vehicles manufactured between February 2012 and August 2012.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA ) the module installed for detecting the child restraint may not function properly if the seat gets wet.

NHTSA said that the airbag will not turn off if the control module does not detect a child seat installed.

NHTSA added that if the airbag does not turn off, in the event of a crash necessitating front airbag deployment, a child secured in the child seat may be at increased risk for serious injury.

Earlier in 2012, the automaker recalled 83 2012 Beetle models as the company found that the vehicles were equipped with the wrong tires.
