Co-Brand Omni-Directional LED Light Bulb Is Introduced by Delta with 7-11

In cooperation with 7-11, Delta has announced the launch of an omni-directional LED light bulb. The firm indicated the first batch will be 300,000 units and it expects all to be sold within one month. The 8W omni-directional LED light bulb is priced at two for NT$599 (US$19.88).

According to Roland Chiang, general manager of the Solid-state Lighting Business Unit at Delta, the second batch of 300,000 units is also ready for the market. According to statistics, Delta is likely to become the largest provider of LED light bulbs in Taiwan in 2012 by selling 700,000-800,000 units in total. Total shipments of LED light bulbs are likely to reach two million units in 2012, according to market research.

7-11 has been selling Everlight LED light bulbs with the price of NT$299/unit. A total of 100,000 units were sold out in two weeks. Delta has priced the 8W LED light bulb at NT$599 for two. The product also adopts a light source from Japan-based Nichia.

Chiang added that there are approximately 2.5 million households in Taiwan with annual light bulb demand around 10 million units. LED light bulb penetration rate in Taiwan should be around 5-10% in 2012, around 1-2 million units. This means the market is about to take off. In addition, the price of LED light bulbs has been reaching the sweet spot as customers can purchase three units for only NT$1,000, said Chiang.

Delta will focus own-brand products in the Taiwan market.
