German carmaker Volkswagen has released the details of its redesigned Golf hatchback in the German city of Berlin, prior to its debut at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show in France.
Built on the new c, the hatchback for the European market is powered by the 1.4TSI engine, which generates an output of 140hp, while the base TDI Clean Diesel engine offers an output of 105hp.
Golf hatchback will be lower in height and longer than the outgoing model and it have a wider track than the Mark 6 model.
According to the carmaker, the TSI engine variant model will deliver a fuel efficiency of 49 mpg combined, while the TDI variant offers 62 mpg on the EC combined cycle.
The German carmaker revealed that the redesigned Golf will go on sale in the US in early 2014.
Volkswagen is also planning to launch the electric variant, which is expected to be launched by the end of 2014 as a 2015 model.
For the US market, the Golf lineup is expected to feature a TDI variant powered by a 2.0 litre diesel engine and a Golf GTI with a turbocharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine.
