Clariant Is Celebrating The Global Marketing Launch of Its Dispersogen PL

Clariant is celebrating the global marketing launch of its Dispersogen PL - range of dispersing agents for waterborne pigment preparations.

Aimed at organic pigments and carbon blacks, the new dispersants give architectural coatings extra brightness and brilliance – thanks to their high pigment loading. The patented copolymers are able to create dispersions with more than 50% pigment, significantly more than conventional loadings. And the Dispersogen PL – range does this without sacrificing fl0wability. Viscosities of its pigment dispersions are within the range of 50-500 mPA•s. Similarly loaded conventional pigment preparations, by contrast, turn often to a much higher viscosity.

“High pigment-loads also means that the Dispersogen PL – range does more for less. Its typical mixing ratio is 1:10 up to 1:5 dispersant based on active matter to pigment, and customer trials over the past two years have shown that the pigment pastes have a very good shelf life, stable against drying and very compatible with all kind of waterborne coatings,” says Hendrik Ahrens, Technical Application Specialist in Clariant’s Industrial & Consumer Specialties Business Unit.

Dispersogen PL 30 and Dispersogen PL 40 additionally are safe to humans and the environment. Dispersogen PL 30 as a nonionic copolymer and Dispersogen PL 40 as an anionic copolymer have a friendly ecotox profile and contain insignificant levels of irritants and other hazards that might require a coating to bear a CLP1 label. Additionally these two dispersants have a low VOC level and are suitable to be used in decorative paints aiming to obtain ecolabel certification such as Germany’s Blue Angel (RAL-UZ 102).
