The winners of the 2013 Queensland Supply Chain & Logistics Awards, held in cooperation between the Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia, Queensland Division, and Telstra Enterprise and Government, All Purpose Transport, apicsAU, Closed Loop Environmental Services, Energex Limited and Transpacific Industries Group, were announced in front of over 320 people during the annual charity dinner at the Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics Conference.

2013 Queensland Future Leaders Award
The Future Leaders Award, sponsored by All Purpose Transport, is designed to provide incentive and recognition to young professionals who are both currently working in and wish to continue their career path within the transport, supply chain and logistics industry.
The winner of the 2013 Queensland Future Leaders Award is Kingsley Cherry consultant, Project Procure. Kingsley Cherry has been the leader for the Project Procure team acting in partnership with Charles Kendall Partners as the international procurement agent for the Republic of Nauru. It is not often anyone has the opportunity to play such a prominent role in managing the supply chain for a whole country, even a small one – approx. $60 million. Kingsley is aiding the development of Pacific nations, something he has aimed to do, since starting his career.
A High Commendation has been awarded to Cassie Morton, sourcing specialist Aurizon. As the procurement lead on the Aurizon Telecommunications Transformation' Project, Cassie Morton contributed by delivering a 44% cost saving and achieving the four key criteria of improved reliability, reduced cost, balanced risk and continuous improvement. Cassie is also looking to return to Griffith Uni and study her Masters in Supply Management.
2013 Queensland Industry Excellence Award
The Industry Excellence Award, sponsored by ENERGEX Limited, recognises and acknowledges the outstanding achievements and contribution by an individual currently working within the transport, supply chain and logistics industry.
The winner of the 2013 Queensland Industry Excellence Award is Paul Kahlert, general manager, All Purpose Transport. Throughout Paul's twenty-six year involvement with the supply chain, logistics and transport industries he has demonstrated significant contributions by helping to grow and maintain All Purpose Transport's position as a key employer in the industry; donating his time and experience to industry bodies, donating his time and services to charity, and spearheading a whole of workforce training and development program for APT, which also had an impact on the industry as a whole by setting a benchmark for other companies to follow.
A High Commendation has been awarded to Colin Jennings, managing director, Transdev (Queensland), a provider of public transport and charter services to Redlands City and East Brisbane in south east Queensland. Colin willingly shares his knowledge and intimate understanding of government policy and framework which enhances the bus industry's ability to communicate and negotiate within a political and bureaucratic environment.
2013 Queensland Environmental Excellence Award
The Environmental Excellence Award, sponsored by Closed Loop Environmental Services, recognises corporate leadership contributing to the solution of environmental sustainability within our industry through performance and action.
The winner of the 2013 Queensland Environmental Excellence Awards is ENERGEX Limited.
The ENERGEX Carbon Management Plan outlines a broad range of carbon mitigation initiatives that reduce emissions, improve efficiencies in energy and waste and drive innovation in delivering energy to customers. ENERGEX Limited is developing a Network Adaptation Plan to understand the impacts of future climate change scenarios on the network.
A High Commendation has been awarded to Haymans Electrical & Data Suppliers. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Haymans Electrical & Data Suppliers has introduced a safe, efficient and cost-effective lamp recycling service to its customers. In order to maximise the benefits of the recycling services it offers, Haymans has developed and introduced a number of innovative approaches. These include processing unwanted and used lamps on or off-site; the Tube Terminator; drop-off points at all Haymans Branches; and lighting waste containers.
2013 Queensland Supply Chain Management Award
The Supply Chain Management Award, sponsored by Transpacific Industries Group, is designed to encourage and acknowledge the outstanding achievement of an organisation that has demonstrated significant achievement in managing the integration of supply chains.
The winner of the 2013 Queensland Supply Chain Management Award is Polar Fresh Cold Chain Services, ParkinsonDC.
Polar Fresh Parkinson has gone through a major period of change and growth in the last 12 months with the implementation of fresh produce into the site. This implementation resulted in significant change to the operation of the business. Not only did it require doubling of the number of team members and almost doubling of the volume being moved through the site, it also involved the physical expansion of the building. The dedicated facility now employs over 650 team members and supplies all confectionery, milk, poultry, meat, dairy, chilled, frozen and fresh produce products to over 200 stores throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
2013 Queensland Training, Education & Development Award
The Training, Education and Development Award, sponsored by apicsAU, is presented to the company or institution that best demonstrates a significant achievement in aspects such as recruitment process, training, HR systems, formal education and development programs which is both relevant to and promotes the supply chain and logistics industry.
The winner of the 2013 Queensland Training, Education and Development Award is Transpacific Industries Group.
Over the past twelve months, Transpacific Industries Group has actively targeted the engagement of its workforce to enhance the way they do business and to attract and retain a more diverse workforce. The elements of this workforce initiative includes: Leadership Diversity – indigenous, Diversity – youth, Diversity – gender, Flexibility, Recruitment. This initiative has a two-pronged approach: the first one is to enhance the engagement of the team at Transpacific and to diversify the workforce, and the second is for Transpacific to showcase the importance of gender diversity to the supply chain, logistics and transport industries.
A High Commendation has been awarded to Queensland University of Technology Business School. Engaging with both private and public sector organisations and the SCLAA, QUT has sought to develop and promote improved graduate capabilities and 'work preparedness' through industry internships. There is evidence that demonstrates the positive correlation that blended learning courses, combining lectures, seminars and work integration has on enhancing student learning and workplace preparedness.
The Queensland SCL Awards are the state feeder program for the Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards, which will be held on 28 November at the Sydney Opera House.
