VPK Group Has Invested Gbp4m to Upgrade Corrugating and Casemaking Capacity

UK packaging firm Rigid Containers, part of Belgian paper and packaging company VPK Group has invested GBP4m to upgrade corrugating and casemaking capacity at its Desborough, Northamptonshire site.

The company has installed a new 2.8m BHS dry-end for its corrugator and a four-colour Latitude casemaker and expects to improve capacity to produce shelf-ready packaging.

It said the new dry-end of its corrugators has already helped it to increase output.

Rigid Containers has also announced to install three flexo print units to an existing Bobst SP-160 flat bed die-cutter during the summer, which will improve print capabilities from this machine further.

In May last year the firm first announced plans for the new Latitude casemaker year, when it placed the order for the machine at the Sino Corrugated show in Shanghai, China.

Rigid Containers managing director Richard Coward said that the investment had been made to bring the Desborough site into line with production capacity at the group's Selby facility in North Yorkshire, where a six-colour G?pfert press has also recently been installed.

With integrated sites in Belgium, France, Poland, the Czech Republic and the UK, VPK is one of the largest privately owned packaging firms in Europe.
