Dan Peters Passed Away Nov. 22 After a Long Battle with Cancer

Dan Peters, owner of Lancaster Bicycle, passed away Nov. 22 after a long battle with cancer. He was 41.

Before opening Lancaster Bicycle four years ago, Peters managed Bike Source in Columbus and at one time worked for Kenda as a sales and promotion rep. Actively involved in the Lancaster cycling community, Peters co-founded the Tour de Cause ride, which raises money and awareness for drug education and drug treatment programs.

In 2009, Peters was awarded the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette's Orchid Award for providing free bike maintenance to the county sheriff’s office and Lancaster police department’s bicycle patrol units. He was also recognized for his work with a Boy Scout troop to recondition 10 bicycles for Fairfield County Job and Family Services.

In addition, Peters assisted with the region’s Safe Routes to School program, taught bicycle safety classes for Lancaster city schools and volunteered for numerous other bicycle events and fundraisers.

Peters is survived by his wife, Carrie, and two daughters. A memorial service will take place sometime in spring of 2014.
