The Swiss Federal Council has tabled a proposal to amend Switzerland's environmental protection law, which includes introducing national legislation similar to the EU Timber Regulation. This step was reported in the autumn edition of the European Timber Trade Federation's (ETTF) newsletter. The national council will likely vote on the proposal some time in the summer of 2014. The ETTF newsletter states that the Swiss timber regulation might take effect as soon as the start of 2015, if approved. The new Swiss law should make it easier to trade timber between the EU and Switzerland again.
