A light tower is a remote lighting device that can be powered using different sources such as diesel or gasoline. It is typically used for outdoor lighting or at places where there is no access to electrical power. Lighting are commonly found in applications such as construction sites, sports events, search and rescue operations, outdoor parking lots, shipyards, warehouses and so on. The lights used in such towers are 1500-watt halide lights. Why are light towers needed? As we know, the lack of light can lead to an unhealthy working environment. Insufficient light can also lead to accidents, especially in high risk areas such as mines and shipyards. OSHA mandates that a certain minimum amount of light is required in order to provide a safe and healthy working environment for workers. The onus is on the business owners or managers to provide high-quality and consistent illumination where required. High quality light towers are capable of providing a no-shadow work environment. In places such as mines, the towers cannot be placed near the area of work. To address this issue, the powerful towers can be positioned up to 250-300 feet away from the actual area of work. Consistent illumination is also required for outdoor events such as exhibitions and conventions. Lack of light in parking lots can actually be considered to be a security threat. All of these points reiterate the need for a lighting in different areas. How does a lightning address various illumination needs? Such a tower mainly comprises a gen-set as a power supply unit and a long mast that is fitted at the upper end with an assembly of high-power bulbs. This mast can telescope to a height of nearly 55 feet. The mast can be folded as and when required, thus enabling the light tower to be transported easily from one place to another. Lighting need to be manufactured for use in some of the most demanding environments. Also, since most such towers are used outdoor, they need to be resistant to extreme weather conditions such as snow, rain, and winds. Lighting have been used for several years now, there were some limitations associated with the conventional towers. Owing to this, there has been a demand for a 16-light light tower that can be used in some of the most rugged locations in the world. Responding to this requirement, certain firms have introduced light towers that feature not 12, but 16 high-power bulbs. These towers are known to offer uninterrupted illumination where required. Lighting can be used at airports, refineries, disaster sites, as well as homeland security applications. There are several other mission-critical operations that can benefit from the use of a towers.
