The Pilkington Product Knowledge Training Courses Are Back

The Pilkington Product Knowledge training courses are back and the course tutors are all fired up to pass on their know-how and experience. This year's programme sees the introduction of a series of half- and one-day bite-sized courses on key topics.

The first of these is a half-day course on Fire, Safety and Security which takes place at the company's Greengate Works in St Helens on 26th June.

The course has been designed for commercial, sales and technical representatives specifically involved in the supply and installation of fire-resistant, safety and security glazing. Available to customers as well as internal sales teams, it aims to provide participants with an understanding of the Pilkington product range and confidence in dealing with enquiries for these applications.

Steve Bond, Customer Support Manager for Pilkington's fire protection business in the UK, is one of the tutors. He explains: "Fire protection is a complex area and mistakes in the specification can result in serious consequences. The course intends to address this by explaining how glass reacts in a fire situation. There will also be an introduction to the Pilkington product range, including our new advanced toughened glass, Pilkington Pyroclear®. We will also be demonstrating how our easy-to-use Specifire tool can help customers arrive at the correct fire-resistant glass specification."

As well as fire protection, the course covers important aspects associated with safety glass – performance, classification, legislation and marking. It also describes how glass can perform against security risks such as manual attack, bullet resistance and explosion resistance.

Phil Brown, Technical Advisory Service Manager for the UK & Ireland, comments: "Our Product Knowledge training courses have always been popular, but courses that are two or three days in length do not suit all requirements. The introduction of shorter courses on specialist subjects, such as fire protection, provides greater flexibility in supporting the training needs of our customers.

"If you are selling or installing fire-resistant glass, a half day's worth of training could prove invaluable for many years."
