Industrial dryers are machines that are used to dry or moisture and liquid from: product parts, solids, powder and liquids, etc. through the process of evaporation or sublimation. This process is sometimes helped along by conveyor belts which are made to carry a material throughout different stages of the drying process. Conveyor belts are ideal for food and agricultural sectors because, if they are cleaned regularly, industrial dryers can be quite sanitary. Industrial dryers are available in two basic types, which are direct and indirect. Direct dryers use convection to heat a product through direct contact with heated air, gas or combusted gas products. Indirect dryers use conduction to heat a product through contact with a heated wall. Industrial dryers are designed to service a wide range of industrial and commercial applications such as: paper and film conversion, printing, plastics, textiles, composites, and laminates, etc. Air bars, flotation, air knives and belt conveyors, chamber and disc are the various types of industrial dryers. Air bars create dispersed drying air, while flotation dryers use several air bars to gently dry delicate material. Air knife dryers create high-pressure air blasts to dry voluminous sheets and bulk material; while belt conveyor dryers convey feed material to the dryer through perforated or mesh belts. Chamber-type dryers are usually heated to very high temperatures, while disc dryers are fitted with several heated discs which move through the dryer to heat material. Other types of industrial dryers include flash dryers, rotary dryers, infrared dryers and air dryers. Flash dryers work by exposing objects to an extreme amount of heat often for a short period of time. This method can usually dry the object or materials in just a few seconds and sometimes it can dry them almost instantaneously. Water treatment plants often use flash dryers to drying sludge to remove contaminants. Rotary dryers give us a clean and simple method of drying. These dryers are often powered by wood or coal and they lift and shower an object or material through a hot, gaseous stream. Rotary dryers are usually used to dry objects such as powders, crystalline materials, and sludge for food, chemical, and mineral industries. Infrared dryers are usually used to dry coatings that are found in paper, especially in paintings and screen printing. These dryers create radiation to perform their tasks. Air dryers are probably the most common and popular types of industrial dryers as they can dry materials and objects by using hot air or by compression. Source: industrial101.com
