How to Fix Garage Door?

It is Sunday and you have planned a nice morning out at a picturesque place. You want to make sure that your car is in a good shape so you head towards the garage. The moment you open the garage door, you hear a squeaky sound. You try to find out the source of the sound. You realize that it is the door. Deeper into door sleuthing and you eventually find out that your door has gone kaput. Your Sunday outing has now gone for a toss. You wonder how to fix garage door. How to Fix Garage Door?

Fix #1

There is a possibility that the springs of your door are not in a good shape. Checking the status of the springs is one of the first few things you can consider. On doors which fall in the category of swing up, the spring on each is hooked in notches or holes. In case the tension of the spring is a problem, adjust it by moving the spring hook to the next hole or notch. This is one way to fix garage door spring. Spring cable on a pulley, control the spring if there are roll up doors. In this type of door ,you need to pull the cable farther through the plate above the door, knotting the end again for retaining the tension.

Fix #2

If you observe that your garage door is not opening properly and is sticking while you open and close it, the culprit could be the hinges and the metal rollers. In this case, to fix garage door you need to take a good look at the metal tracks in the garage. The mounting brackets holding the tracks have to be checked. There is a chance that the brackets have to be tightened.

Fix #3

Another thing you may need to do is to clean the tracks using a regular household cleaner, to get rid of the dirt and hardened grease/dirt. After cleaning the tracks, wipe the rollers as well as the tracks squeaky dry.

Lubricating the tracks is another important aspect when you fix garage door. The tracks can be stuck due to lack of lubrication. Lubricating the tracks with the help of lubricant spray can solve the problem with the garage door. Powdered graphite can also be used to be put in the tracks. Lubricate the pulleys too, if any, with the same lubricant.

In cases where the garage door is not opening or closing, the reason behind it could be that there is some problem with the sensor or programming. In that case, you may have to check the key pad to fix garage door sensor. The key pad might require reprogramming. If frayed wires are found out, the door opener may have to be entirely replaced, most probably.

Loose hardware can cause the door to go squeaky and on the verge of breaking down. With regard to spring up doors, sometimes to fix garage door all you may have to do is to check the plates at the spot where the spring is mounted. Check whether the screws are sufficiently tight. They should not be too tight either. Hinges have to be inspected on roll up doors for several problems related to a garage door.
