The Need of The Technologically-Driven World Is Met by CNC Machines

In the modern world of precision engineering, the first requirement is that of precision machining. This need of the technologically-driven world is met by Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. These CNC machines come in different forms like primarily CNC lathe and CNC milling machines although there are other forms as well and these include the CNC High Speed Hard Milling and CNC Multi Tasking Machines. However, there are other precision tasks that need to be carried out too in industries like Aerospace where micronic holes need to be drilled in very hard metals like in the leading and trailing edges of turbine blades used in jet engines. These tasks need an Electrical Discharge Machining equipment or EDM drill. There are other important tasks that todayâEUR(TM)s technologically driven engineering companies need to carry out including gearbox repair, melt pump refurbishment and heavy metal testing. The basic concept of EDM is the use of an electrode to erode a work piece with the use of electrical sparks. The electricity flows through the electrode in a square wave form that attacks the points of least resistance on the work piece. Therefore, each time the square wave is formed, the zap strikes the metal at the designated spot and then the current is switched off and the debris washed away. This cycle repeats several times in a second and the electrode digs deeper each time. The EDM has three forms such as Wire EDM, Sinker EDM and the Small Hole EDM Drill or the Hole Popper. The EDM Drill uses a very aggressive power supply to create holes very fast. These Hole Poppers are very suitable for creating holes after the job has been heat-treated even when it has been hardened. The electrode never comes in contact with the work piece or job. Some EDM drills can make holes as fine as 0.012 to 0.120 in or as large as 13 inches in any form of steel. Besides the routine requirements, an advanced Metallurgical Laboratory in an ISO certified engineering company can also carry out heavy metal testing. This form of testing is carried out on metals and plastics to determine the presence of heavy metals including lead or arsenic among others. Heavy metal testing uses portable XRF technology equipment. This device can be carried out to the customerâEUR(TM)s location where large samples can be speedily tested for alloy identification. The equipment has the capability of testing more than 350 standard alloys. It gives a detailed elemental analysis of even an alloy that is not available in the database. The files are admissible in a court of law and the staff duly trained and certified to conduct the testing. Source: GOARTICLES
