A Fireplace Becomes an Integral Aspect of The Living Room

A fireplace becomes an integral aspect of the living room, or for that matter any room in which it is built. The sheer size and shape of the fireplace attracts the attention of the visitor. Hence, consider some really good designs, while completing your living room. Simple, tasteful and charming designs and interior decorating ideas add to the welcoming appeal of the room and every moment in the living room will be as good as spring indoors while snow falls outside.

Contemporary Fireplace Designs

When it comes to designs, remember one motto, simplicity is beauty. Conventional fireplaces which are fed by firewood or other combustible substances such as coal or gas have gone out of fashion of late. However, having such a fireplace will definitely make your living room nostalgic and majestic.

Conventional fireplaces are made out of brick or stone, however, any additional design that you give to it makes the entire area attractive. A fireplace is conventionally known as a hearth, and is of course partially enclosed. The two openings being the chimney and the other one being the place where you receive the warmth. Using some really good yet simple hearth designs, will do the trick. Fireplaces have a long column stretching out till your roof till the outlet of the chimney.

The first option which is the simplest one is that you leave the stone or brick structure as it is and just cover up the middle portion that is the gaps between two stones with a good epoxy or sealant or plaster or the best option being cement. Your second option is to cover it up with plaster or cement. The entire area will either stand out or will either merge to become a part of the wall. This depends on the colors that you choose. Some people go ahead and re-model and merge the entire structure in such a way that the fireplace would look like a wall and the actual place will seem just like a small photo frame or a small shelf in the wall. Such wall-integrated fireplaces are very compact and do not attract too much attention. In fact some of them don't even look like fireplaces if not observed closely.

The third option is an add to the fire places by providing a mantel or a shelf over the fire hearth that will add to its charm. Stone fireplaces can have a well polished mantel or glass or metal mantels. The fourth option is that of a grill. It's not a barbecue grill but is a grill that separates the hearth from the rest of the room. This grill is usually made up of wood or metal and is an excellent precaution if you have kids in the house.

Designs for Electronic Fireplace

Electronic fireplaces are not very different from contemporaneity fireplaces, however, a more modern appeal with sleek finishing should be on the table. They go right into the wall and do not occupy space at all. As mentioned above, some of them are so compact, that they appear to be like photo frames or book shelves, at a distance, when not lit. Many such compact electronic fireplaces tend to be ready-made products or kits, which you can pick up from the store.

Designs for Outdoor Fireplace

There are some outdoor design plans like a stone hearth which can be run on any combustible fuel such as wood, coal or even bio-gas. Avoid outdoor fireplaces which are electrically fired as potentially there are two problems which can be faced. First, the rate of weathering would be obviously more. Second, there always persists a risk of components being stolen.

Being innovative while choosing a combination of designs will help a lot. Further more, you can also enjoy the experience of making your own designs, instead of picking it up ready-made from the store.
