Ford has chosen aluminium product maker Constellium as the supplier for aluminum structural parts to be used in the Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The pickup truck will use high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy as a build material, and it will use high-strength steel in the frame and aluminum alloy in the body which will help the automaker to reduce up to 700 pounds of weight from the vehicle.
When compared to other full-size light-duty pickups F-150 provides industry's best towing and payload capability.
Constellium Automotive Structures and Industry business unit President Paul Warton said: "We are delighted to become one of Ford's largest supplier of high-strength aluminium structural parts for the groundbreaking F-150 and see this as an important milestone in the expansion of our global automotive structures business."
At the launch event of the aluminum-body F-150, Ford's product development chief Raj Nair said that the new trucks are expected to hit dealership in the coming week.
Reuters cited Nair at a conference telling investors that the launch of the new F-150 at a second US factory later this year is also on schedule.
