Sears Canada has named E.J. Bird, a company board member since 2006, as its interim chief financial officer. He will remain on the multi-channel retailer's board, but will step down as lead director of its audit committee.
He succeeds Sharon Driscoll, who was senior vice president and chief financial officer.
In a statement, Sears Canada said Bird has worked extensively in the investment arena and serves as an independent director at Global Water Resources of Phoenix, as well as at Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores of Hoffman Estates, Ill. He most recently led his own firm providing consulting services.
"E.J. not only brings experience in the financial sector to the company, but also a personal knowledge of the business and our current initiatives having served as a director for the past seven years," said Calvin McDonald, president and CEO of Sears Canada. "It's been of great benefit working with E.J. on the board and I'm excited to work with him on a daily basis."
