Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania has announced plans to introduce an advanced fuel control system, Eco-roll, which can lower customer’s fuel costs by up to 2%.
Eco-roll system calculates and chooses between the most fuel efficient choice - whether to roll down hills with the transmission in neutral and the engine idling, or to use engine braking with the fuel supply switched off.
The system will work ideally with long-haulage trucks, which are provided with Scania Opticruise, a two-pedal system, and Active Prediction, a Euro 6 engine.
The company will roll out this new system in first quarter of 2014 throughout Europe. Customers who who order a truck with Scania Opticruise with Active Prediction can use this system.
To manage the speed of the vehicle, Scania Active Prediction uses both GPS and topographic maps.
