Customers of retailer Gardiners Furniture here had something special to celebrate when Baltimore Ravens player Jacoby Jones returned a kick for a touchdown to start the Super Bowl's second half, the Baltimore Sun reports.
The retailer had promised that if such a kick return happened, all furniture bought between Jan. 31 and 3 p.m. on game day, Feb. 3, would be free.
Gardiners will wind up giving away about $600,000 worth of furniture, Kasee Lehrl, the retailer's advertising and marketing manager, told the Sun. The store took out insurance to cover the expense, she said.
This is the third year the store has run the promotion, the newspaper said. Jones' 108-yard run was the first time anyone had returned a kickoff for a touchdown to open the game or second half of a Super Bowl, it said.
After the play, the store posted on its Facebook page, "That was amazing! Furniture is FREE! If you made a purchase this weekend, it's your lucky day. Go Ravens!"
And yes, the hometown Ravens went on to win the game and become National Football League champions.
