Pieces by Two Students From Illinois Institute of Technology Were Named'best in Show

Chicago,US:Pieces by two students from Illinois Institute of Technology,Annie Hutches and Kuanhoa Chen, were named'best in show'during recent judging of the Idea Tree Exhibit. The furnishing pieces were made of wood from a single tree that was uprooted during a violent storm in Chicago last summer.

Winning the furniture category,Mr Chen managed to impress the judges with his side tables that were designed with'mixed media elements in a rustic style'.Ms Hutchens also attracted much attention in the accessory category with her stained glass panels, inspired by a Chicago street map.

The pieces will be exhibited at the Idea Tree exhibition beginning June 1,2012 in a 5,000 sq ft(465 sq m)gallery within the Inland Steel Building. In total, more than 48 furniture and accessory items will be on display at the exhibition.Admission to the Idea Tree exhibition is free of charge.

The exhibit is the result of a design project by Sawbridge Studios,in collaboration with the Illinois Institute of Technology and Horigan Urban Forest Products, whereby students were first mentored by craftsmen from Sawbridge Studios and then later built their pieces at an on-campus workshop.
