Case goods manufacturer Henkel Harris could resume production in April, following a purchase of its assets by a local limited liability company called A.G. Capital.
A.G. Capital is owned by the Gum family, which owns National Fruit Co. National Fruit Co. produces White House brand apple products and other private branded food products.
Officials did not reveal a purchase price of the assets nor did a press release state what those assets included.
Formed in 1946, Henkel Harris ceased operations earlier this year largely in response to overseas competition, its management said.
A.G. Capital said it plans to restart manufacturing operations as soon as April. It has named Scott Hovermale, an executive at White House Foods, as the lead executive in restructuring the Henkel Harris operations.
Bill Henkel, who was most recently president and CEO, is retiring and pursuing other opportunities, according to the Northern Virginia Daily.
In a statement, Henkel said his company and family have worked hard to "reach an agreement with a company they believe will carry on the traditions of manufacturing very high end quality furniture that Henkel Harris has built a reputation on since 1946."
David Gum was not immediately available for comment. He did tell the Northern Virginia Daily that he believes the line is the best quality furniture sold in the world and it was "hard to see a company that had been in Winchester so long disappear."
The Gum family said it will continue to sell down current inventory levels as it prepares to restart production.
"We are happy we could come to an agreement to be given the chance to serve the Henkel Harris tradition of high quality, good family-owned and operated values and community partnerships that we believe will serve the Winchester economy and traditional values well," David Gum said in a statement.
