LED lighting is being used in a plethora of different forms throughout the world and they are only getting more popular as firms take advantage of their energy saving capabilities.
An East Yorkshire business is also at the forefront of the technology and leading the way in an innovative plant growing project.
It is home to a research facility for LED lighting that was launched in the north of the county earlier this year.
The LED 4 Crops facility at Stockbridge Technology Centre houses a variety of LED light test situations where many different mobile LED racks are used to grow crops.
General manager of CambridgeHOK Tim Haworth told the Hull Daily Mail that the LEDs help to understand which crops need which light remedies.
The business produces commercial glasshouses and it is testing which plants grow better under which light spectrum.
Mr Haworth said this is the biggest open research facility in Europe and it will allow horticulture throughout the world take a huge leap forward.
"We have been involved in LEDs for 18 months and it is growing. It's really good to be part of this. LED is the next step. It is a much more energy efficient means of producing light," he continued.
Chief executive of the facility Graham Ward told the news provider that the LEDs are significantly more energy-efficient.
He also predicted that LEDs will come down in price in the near future as more people look to use them.
"The cost of this lighting in five to ten years time will be economical in-line with what we want to do. We expect the LED technology to move forward," he continued.
LED lights are cropping all over the place now as more people and firms take advantage of the energy-efficient alternative to other methods of lighting.
Indeed, Sheffield recently became the first city in the UK to begin a city-wide installation of LED streetlights.
