Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp (NSSMC) has informed domestic dealers to raise the prices for the commodity grade heavy plates by ¥3,000/ton from next January. It's learned that NSSMC decided to raise heavy plate prices in order to improve margin, according to the spokesman. NSSMC hiked a total of ¥15,000/ton earlier this year to offset higher input costs. The spokesman said that customers have accepted the previous price rise and the demand for heavy plates have remained firm. Thus, NSSMC decided to raise heavy plate prices further from next January.
