Analog IC vendors are set to post strong sales in the third quarter of 2014 thanks to the roll-outs of new smartphones, tablets and LED lighting products, according to industry sources.
Richtek Technology and Global Mixed-mode Technology (GMT), the top-two suppliers, have revealed that their sales are expected to grow 11% and 2-12%, respectively, in the third quarter as compared to a quarter earlier.
Richtek's sales are buoyed by sub-power management (PWM) IC orders from Samsung Electronics, while GMT's PWM solutions are finding their way to Qualcomm's Snapdragon platforms, indicated the sources.
Other vendors, including Leadtrend Technology, On-Bright Electronics and Anpec Electronics have had their rapid charge controller ICs verified for MediaTek's smartphone chipset platforms, indicated the sources.
Most analog IC suppliers are also expected to ramp up their shipments to the mobile device and LED lighting sectors in second half of 2014, said sources, noting that shipments to the two sectors currently account for 10-20% of total sales of some vendors.
