TCL Packaging has developed a new printed, stand-up and ovenable pouch for frozen and fish-based cook-in-the-bag meals.
The new Doypack is being launched on a new range of frozen and fish-based cook-in-the-bag meals in British supermarket chain Asda.
TCL Packaging technical director Markus Jarvstrom said: "This is a technically complex and innovative product that we expect to transform how certain foods are packed.
"The performance of both pack and print at temperature for both cooking from scratch and reheating has been extensively tested throughout development."
The new pouch, which is suitable for microwave and conventional oven cooking up to 200°C, can also be stored as frozen.
Made through using PET structure, the stand-up pouch format is specifically suitable for microwave ovens as it accommodates easily inside and can be safely handled when the contents are hot and poured out for serving.
According to the company, the Doypack has been fully certified by Smithers Pira for food safety up to 220°C and 450°F Gas 7.
The firm had used latest ovenable inks and a new pouch-making conversion process to facilitate strong seals for the pack. It also has better slip properties for easy handling during the packing process.
