Consumer Confidence Index Rises Three Points

March Sees Consumer Confidence Index Increase Three Points

GfK’s UK Consumer Confidence Index has increased three points this month to 4. All five measures used to calculate the Index saw increases this month.

Nick Moon, MD of social research at GfK, says: “At +4, the Index is the highest it has been for almost 13 years, and it has gone up a striking eight points in just three months. Reaction to the budget has thus far been muted, but if people warm to it over the next few weeks then we may well see a further increase in the Index next month. A consistently rising Index in the run-up to the election is likely to be good news for the government.”

The Overall Index Score has increased three points this month to 4.All five measures used to calculate the Overall Index Score increased in March.

The index measuring changes in personal finances during the last 12 months has increased one point this month to -2 – this is nine points higher than March 2014.

The forecast for personal finances over the next 12 months has increased one point this month to 7 – this is two points higher than March 2014.

The measure for the General Economic Situation of the country during the last 12 months has increased four points this month to 1 – this is 16 points higher than March 2014.

Expectations for the General Economic Situation over the next 12 months have increased three points this month to 6 – this is two points higher than this time last year.

The Major Purchase Index has increased five points this month to 9 – this is 16 points higher than this time last year.

The Savings Index has increased two points to -6, which is eight points higher than March 2014.
